第1篇:英文讀后感范文

Through the first person narrator, Edgar Allan Poe”s "The Tell-Tale Heart" illustrates how man”s imagination is capable of being so vivid that it profoundly affects people”s lives. The manifestation of the narrator”s imagination unconsciously plants seeds in his mind, and those seeds grow into an unmanageable situation for which there is no room for reason and which culminates in murder. The narrator takes care of an old man with whom the relationship is unclear, although the narrator”s comment of "For his gold I had no desire" lends itself to the fact that the old man may be a family member whose death would monetarily benefit the narrator. Moreover, the narrator also intimates a caring relationship when he says, "I loved the old man. He had never wronged me. He had never given me insult". The narrator”s obsession with the old man”s eye culminates in his own undoing as he is engulfed with internal conflict and his own transformation from confidence to guilt.

The fixation on the old man”s vulture-like eye forces the narrator to concoct a plan to eliminate the old man. The narrator confesses the sole reason for killing the old man is his eye: "Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees - very gradually - I made up my mind to rid myself of the eye for ever". The narrator begins his tale of betrayal by trying to convince the reader he is not insane, but the reader quickly surmises the narrator indeed is out of control. The fact that the old man”s eye is the only motivation to murder proves the narrator is so mentally unstable that he must search for justification to kill. In his mind, he rationalizes murder with his own unreasonable fear of the eye.

The narrator wrestles with conflicting feelings of responsibility to the old man and feelings of ridding his life of the man”s "Evil Eye". Although afflicted with overriding fear and derangement, the narrator still acts with quasi-allegiance toward the old man; however, his kindness may stem more from protecting himself from suspicion of watching the old man every night than from genuine compassion for the old man. The narrator shows his contrariety when he confesses he loves the old man, but he is still too overwhelmed by the pale blue eye to restrain himself from the all-consuming desire to eliminate the eye. His struggle is evident as he waits to kill the old man in his sleep so that he won”t ha一ve to face the old man when he kills him; but on the other hand, the narrator can”t justify the killing unless the vulture eye was open. The narrator is finally able to kill the man because "I saw it with perfect distinctness - all a dull blue, with a hideous veil over it that chilled the very marrow in my bones; but I could see nothing else of the old man”s face or person: for I had directed the ray as if by instinct, precisely upon the damned spot".

The mission of the narrator begins with meticulous planning and confidence, but ultimately his guilty conscience creates his downfall. For seven days, the narrator watches the old man while he sleeps and he even "chuckled at the idea" that the old man knows nothing of the narrator”s "secret deeds or thoughts". The narrator”s comments show his confidence and audacity, even pride, in his plan to kill: "Never before that night had I felt the extent of my own powers - of my sagacity. I could scarcely contain my feelings of triumph". The narrator”s assurance in his evil deed continued even when the police came to check on the old man and investigate the loud noises neighbors heard the night before: "I smiled,-for what had I to fear I bade the gentlemen welcome". However, the narrator”s mind is quickly consumed with guilt, which creates his delusion of hearing the old man”s heartbeat taunting him from under the flooring. His paranoia makes the heart beat "louder - louder - louder!" and in his state of delirium he confesses to killing the old man in hopes of ridding his life of the menacing heartbeat: "I felt that I must scream or die! - and now.

The narrator sets out to rid his life of the fear he created by obsessing over the man”s eye, but once that fear is destroyed, another fear - that of the heartbeat - is created and becomes more overwhelming than the first. In playing mind games with himself - seeing how far he can push himself to triumph over his own insanity - the narrator slips further into a fantasy world. His overriding confidence in killing the man ultimately turns into overriding guilt even as he justifies in his mind the sa一vage killing, chopping up the body and placing it under the floorboards. The narrator”s imagination creates his need and plan to destroy the eye, but it then creates the need to sa一ve himself from the heartbeat that drives him over the edge.

第2篇:英文讀后感范文

“Great expectations” is one of  Dicken’s most maturest works. After Dicken had experienced large part of meaningful life, he had a deeper cognition for people, environment, as well as the life which he had gone through. And all the mature cognitions are included in this writing---Great expectations.

Pip was brought up  by  his sister who was unpleasant as well as crude and her friendly blacksmith husband—Joe. Joe himself had arranged a common hard but satisfied path for Pip to go through, and on the other hand, Pip beheld this as his highest goal to achieve.

But the two things which he had experienced later had changed his pursue and his fate as well. Met Abel Magwith(an escaped convict) in the swamp, and unwillingly helped him out of danger by stealing food from his own home. If say that had changed his attitude for material life, then, his introduction to Miss  Havisham, an aging woman who had been jilted at the alter and Estella who had been brought up by  Havisham only to revenge for her own pain had brought vast shock for his world of spirit.

Aspiring to be a gentleman despite his humble born, Pip fortunately or unfortunately received a fund of wealth from an unknown source and being sent to London with a lawyer. From then on, he became a gentleman without question at the price of losing everything.

The title of this book is ‘Great expectations” which make an impression on us that the character would have great expectations just as the title goes. But in fact this title has a tone of sarcastic on the other way around.

This story full of quirkiness from the very beginning to the end, the relations among characters are anfractuous as well which actually attracted me a lot.

One of the paragraphs, which I appreciate most implicatively as well as beautifully expresses the feeling between Pip and Estella.

“We are friends,” said I, rising and bending over her, as she rose from the bench.

‘And will continue friends apart.” Said  Estella.

I took his hand in mine, and we went out of the ruined place; and, as the morning mists had risen long ago when I first let the forge, so, the evening mists were rising now, and in all the broad expanse of tranquil light they showed to me, I saw no shadow of another parting from her.

At the view of language, this works had achieved a step o f highest, Dicken had made this writing plain and fluent as well, which surely can attract lots of readers and high comments.

To be frank, I really impressed by this art of beauty. So  I like Dicken’s works very much.

遠大前程英文讀后感二:To be simple

After reading the whole book of “Great Expectations” written by Charles Dickens, I can’t find suitable words to express my thoughts completely.

First of all, I am attracted by the excellent literary talent of Charles Dickens. The descriptions of the details are just right for the foundation of the background. The design of the story also brings me shock. To me, it is not only a good story, but also a lesson of the life that I am experiencing.

But, what I have learnt from the book is not the main idea that Charles Dickens wanted to show. What impresses me deeply is only a supporting role —Joe. Compared with the life of Pip, what Joe has experienced is so ordinary. He is an ordinary blacksmith, an ordinary husband, an ordinary brother, an ordinary friend, even an ordinary person! However, just such an ordinary person brings me a great special feeling. In his world, life is so simple. He is far away from the complex world which is polluted by the ugly soul of people. May be, “kind-hearted” is the biggest advantage of him, which is also the biggest shortage of him in his daily life.

Different from all the other figures in the book, Joe’s life is so simple and his thoughts also stay pure after he experiences whatever sufferings that life gives him. In my opinion, his childhood is miserable. What he has experienced must be unhappy and sorrowful. He grows up in such a family, meets so much violence (May be, in that period, it is common)。To say it exaggeratedly, there must be bad influences on his young heart. But, what he does surprises me one more time. He treats his sufferings in another way—to be sincere.

I can’t really understand what he is thinking about, but I am deeply touched by his behavior. His tolerant with his wife—Pip’s sister, his friendly affection with Pip, even his sympathy with a prisoner that all express one thing — sincerity. He is the harbor of soul for Pip. There is such a great difference between Joe and Pip’s ambition. What he tells us is that to be simple is the key to your happy life.

Optimism is another spirit in his soul. He never gives in to the difficulties that he meets. Maybe, in his dictionary of life, there is no word with the meaning of shrinking back. He never worries about his lower grade life ,but faces up to it. For example, he only can read  ”J” and ”O(jiān)” before, because he has no chance to study in his childhood. But finally, he sets his mind to study and can write letters by himself.

第3篇:英文讀后感范文

The sun setting, I pull the curtain aside and open the window, taking a deep breath, and feeling the vicissitudes of life.

Be faced with he money, great father is worth of nothing.

At that time, money is the capitalist new signs of the times, and father is just something that when the patriarchal clan system residual feelings.

Concerning father’s love corroded by money, what's left? Sighing…

Saddened by her solitude in the falling dusk, she is assailed by wind and rain. I never thought that, they decided to choose money instead of love. Extreme egoism flooded all moral principles. Father Goriot's property was bled white and abandoned. Originally the spoiling under the money is so heartbreaking.

He was glowing with pain and memory, always hiding in the lonely grave.

Obedient just quietly indulgence, in exchange for you is just being betrayed.

Father Goriot still adhere to love them, as in the past, there is no reason, nor whether it is worthwhile, maybe, in his heart, so this is love.

The story happened in the past, but affects the future.

In our society, who are the only children in us, and it is groeing up in the doting parents’ love ? The same is the interpretation of love, at different times, what is the difference? As children, to accept the same care, what difference does it make? The same parents, giving this selfless care, and usually in the Father Goriot "refuse to realize one's error"?

It is often said, “This is the product of the society”。 Yes, the society originated from the people, for people in the final analysis, it is still the problem! Human nature on the one hand is missing, that led to all the problems of society the arch-criminal.

Their son is of far-reaching.

I've seen in a magazine that a story:

第4篇:英文讀后感范文

Hector was the eldest son of king of Troy, Priam. He was not only a real hero of Trojan, but was regarded the highest moral hero in Greek classic by later historians. The war started because of the mischief of his brother, Paris, whom he didn’t appreciate. However, since Hector was the commander of the Trojan army, he was obliged to fight with all force. It was really a tragedy that such a valiant man died in the duel with another great warrior, Achilles.

It is natural to see death in a war. As a famous Chinese parable says, “A life can be as slight as a piece of feather, or as weighty as Mount Tai.” Sometimes, one’s glory walks hand in hand with one’s doom. Achilles was such a typical person. His personal charm made The Story of Troy more attractive. He was so crucial because his every appearance in a war encouraged his fellow soldiers and terrified the enemies. Actually, Achilles was half-god who was almost invincible in people’s mind. That’s why his name was memorized long after his death.

Besides the two great men, the wisdom of Odysseus also proved him to be a great hero. He didn’t want to attend the war because he was happily married and had a lovely son. However, since his country was allied to Mycenae, he had to take the command given by the king of Mycenae. I’m quite sure that the story of the wooden horse is widely known, however, few people know who thought of the brilliant idea, that’s why I admired Odysseus so much because he was the person who got the idea. Thanks to the horse, the ten-year war came to an end at last. If you want to know how the wooden horse worked, just read the book.

The ancient Greeks believed that the gods and goddesses also played important roles in the origin, process and ending of the whole story.

The story of the golden apple was such an example. When Eris, the goddess of argument and disagreement, threw out the golden apple to a wedding ceremony on Mount Olympus, a dispute happened. Hera, the queen of gods, Athena, the goddess of wisdom, and Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, were all involved in the argument for the apple. None of them was willing to give way, so they turned to Paris for a final judgment. Tempted by Aphrodite’s beauty and promise, Paris handed the apple to her. To keep her word, Aphrodite helped him to get Helen, the most beautiful woman in the world, as his wife. That was the cause of the war.

Paris’s choice obviously annoyed the other two goddesses. So during the war, they helped the Greek alliance army while some other gods, such as Apollo and Aphrodite, guarded Troy. When Paris dueled with Helen’s former husband Menelaus, Aphrodite saved Paris when he was about to be finished off.

After the duel between those two people, there was a truce between the Greek alliance and Troy. However, both Hera and Athena were not happy to see it. Hera pursued her husband ZEUS:“ Now, will you send Athena to make the Troyjans break the peace?”(Page 22) Then with Zeus’s permission, Athena went down to start the war again and finally she brought the Greeks to success.

From the whole story, we can see that in ancient Greeks’ view, gods sometimes played a much more important role in their life. However, with the rapid development of science, we have learned that the Greek gods never existed. This is why a recent movie of Troy has not mentioned a single god. Everything happened due to men’s ambition, love, loyalty or jealousy. With those emotion and people’s effort, we human beings can accomplish wonders and be master of the world.

第6篇:英文讀后感范文

The Olympic Games, which originated in ancient Greece, is the most distinguished sporting event in the world. Once every four years, the utmost athletes from all around are lured to gather together and spare no efforts to compete against each other and try to win a medal for the country that they represent. Frankly speaking, that was virtually all I knew about the world-famous Olympic Games before I had read a book entitled The Olympics published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press. However, I found even more philosophy beyond just winning medals from reading the book, which was beyond my imagination and considerably inspiring.

Someone once said, “Were everybody on earth involved in some kind of sport, our world would be free of war for long.” Starting from three thousand years ago, the ancient Olympic Games has long been an event not only for competition but also for peace. In ancient times, no war was allowed between the cities during the Games, which was rather surprising to me since I could hardly imagine warriors actally putting down their weapons and give a break for peace. The precious tradition of peace continued: I would never fail to recall the scene of the opening ceremonies when North and South Korean athletes entering the stadium with their hands held together. The two neighboring countries that used to be enemies are no longer enemies during the Games. Instead they became friends. Speaking of the XX Athens Olympics, perhaps most people would have the same opinion that the most noable part of the opening ceremony arrived when Iraqi and Afghan representatives showed up. These two unfortunate nations, the people of which have undergone innumerable wars, are coming back again to take their own responsibility in world sports after recent invasions by America. The fearless people of Iraq and Afghanistan are once more sharing the spirit of the Games with people from the rest of the world.

There is another story in this book that makes me deep in thoughts. There is no doubt that the most unusual Olympic Games ever in history is the 1936 Olympics held in Germany, which was then ruled by the Nazi Party. Led by Adolf Hitler, the Nazi believed that the so-called Aryan people were superior to all others in all aspects. They looked down upon Jews and blacks, the latter of which was a major constitution of the United States Olympic team. Despite the barrier that faced him, the African American Jesse Owens, who was a most outstanding runner and jumper, did all that he could and finally won gold medals for his country and went home a hero. This reveals another fact that no power on earth is able to hinder the sacred Olympic Games. For all participants, no matter what their gender, race, nationalities and backgrounds are, equality is distributed among every one who observes the Game’s rules.

At the XX Athens Olympics, our Chinese team did extraordinarily well. We ranked second on the medal lists for the first time in history. In my opinion, however, we should not only concentrate on the figure of medals; instead the strength and perseverance of those who failed to get any medals ought to be highly cherished. Whether ever success or failure, whether ever cheer or tear, whether ever medal or not, the never-gave-up spirits of athletes are always motivating us. I believe in the year 2008, the world will focus all their attention to Beijing, China, where the glory of the Games will continue to thrive forever!

第7篇:英文讀后感范文

It's a short story by O.Henry that has moved me for a long time.Maybe most of you are familar with its name, that is,The Gift of the Magi.I have read it many times but every time I like to read it slowly and deliberately.I think "The Gift of the Magi"

is meant to be savored.

Maybe there is no necessity for me to repeat the main idea of the story. But I'm

so fascinated with the short story that I want to retell it yo you,and to myself.

It happened to a very poor but blissful young couple named Jim and Della in the end of 18th century in England.Because of the maladies of that society and the effect of economic crisis, they worked hard but earned little.Life is very hard for them.Despite of this, their love to each other and the enthusiasm for life didn't changed at all. When Chrismas day was approuching ,Della used the money she got from selling her beautiful hair which she treasured very much to give Jim a fob for his grandfather's pocket watch. But Jim had already sold that watch to buy Della tortoiseshell combs to wear in her long hair, not knowing she'd cut it off.

It appears that the gifts they gave each other have been useless. But I think they gave each other the best of what they had to make the other happy.Isn't that true love?We can image,in such rough conditions,as it said in the story,"Life is made up of sobs, sniffles, and smiles, with sniffles predominating."Its't absolute reasonable for them to be beaten by the misery. But the fact is that no matter how tough life had been, they would't lose heart. With strong faith and their love ,they did their best to make the other pleased."Whennever Mr.James came home and reached his flat ,above he was called 'Jim'and greatly hugged by Mrs.James."Maybe this account is the best description of their love and struggle against hard life.It was said that the povertier life is ,the firmer and truer love is."Actually, they'd given the very best they had out of love.

"They are too foolish children in a flat, who most unwisely sacrificed for each other the greatest treasures of their house. But in a last word,to the wise of these days, let it be said that of all who give gifts these two were the wisest."Said the writer in the last paragraph.Yes,they are wisest. They are the magi. Are there any reasons for us not to show respect for the young couple?

I remind my grandparents. They have spent fifty years together. No romantic words,no stirring behaviours, just comman even pedestrian life. But I can say love exists in every detail of their life. They have gone through war period, three years' natural disasters, cultural revolution and so on.But no matter what happens, they are always considering for the other.Even now both of them have become old step by step, they still cared about each other. My grandparents,in my opinion,is a pair of lovers forever.

第8篇:英文讀后感范文

Church how eerie, this lets a person associate to under the block of religion, then society is how dirty and corrupt. True, the good and the beautiful religious use religion to make bloody incident, formed a strong resistance. Full text can let a person heart deeply understand to the lost, confused and upset.

If you have a sword, you'll do your best to Pierce that layer of clouds in society, you full of anger and contempt for it, just like in the book of the tramps treat society crazy revenge.

Don't the same treatment as the angels and demons, to the whims of numerous dirty, filled with our eyes. This book made me see a different world, it profoundly reveals the inner world of people. At any moment, the person is in common: a passion for the good, the pursuit of good,'s praise of the good... As the angels and demons which one you want to be?

——Thoughts given by Sherlock Holmes and the Duke’s Son

Written in the first chapter of the book Pride and Prejudice is an extraordinary sentence of which even a person who has had only a brief look upon the book will not fail to receive a deep impression-It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife. In terms of Sherlock Holmes, we’d better alter the sentence into “It is a fact universally accepted by readers throughout the world that an excellent book in possession of our famous detective Sherlock Holmes is undoubtedly a masterpiece of all times.” Perhaps this is one of the most obvious explanations for the unrivaled popularity of “Holmes series” in the field of detective stories. Overwhelmed by the recommendations provided by my friends, I decided to take a look on this Sherlock Holmes and the Duke’s Son originally published by Oxford University Press.

As a whole, this book is about a case concerning the Duke’s missing son. Arthur, the Duke’s son, was found out in a certain morning to have disappeared, accompanied with which was also the disappearance of the German teacher. The school master Dr. Huxtable then turned to the famous detective of the time Sherlock Holmes for help. Realizing how tough and important the case is, Holmes immediately made up his mind to accept the case and followed Dr. Huxtable back to Mackleton by train. Having formed a rough idea about the whole matter, Holmes probed into the case immediately and had a careful investigation of the entire area shortly after the arrival, during the process of which he discovered the body of the German teacher Heidegger. Finally, primarily due to his prominent ability as a detective, he managed to unravel the mystery and obtained the twelve thousand pounds promised by the Duke.

Having once started reading this fiction, I was completely immersed in the mysterious story presented by the book. As the saying goes, “Well begun, half done”. At the beginning of the story, just like many other detective stories, the author gives us a brief description of the condition by the words of a client. However, unlike other ones, this story first delineates the client’s strange behavior at length to indicate the severity of the incident in order to attract the readers to continue reading it. As is known to all, vivid depiction is essential to detective stories since it can help the readers understand each figure’s characteristics and visualize the scenes, thus making the story more authentic and attractive. Therefore, trying to present a “real world” to his readership, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, author of the original “Holmes series”, has skillfully arranged the plots of the whole story from the perspective of Dr. Watson, a character not so specialized in discovering the truth hidden behind the enigmatic happenings as Holmes but so loyal to Sherlock Homes as a friend that he always accompanies Holmes wherever he goes. In this way, he elaborately depicted every scene and character in the book, Apart from the special start, the ending of the whole story, being dramatic but reasonable, is certainly an outstanding one. After all, except the author himself, who knows that the Duke’s seemingly ordinary secretary is in fact the Duke’s bastard? In addition, who knows that the Duke actually has already been acquainted with the whole thing before Holmes solves this complicated problem? Yet, surprising as it is, this ending seems so natural that it fits all the plots of the story perfectly well. While enjoying this wonderful story, I could do nothing but admire the wonderful design of this masterpiece as well as the author’s gorgeous writing skill. Closing my eyes, I can even “see” the story happening just like watching a film. Not until then did I understand why the Japanese cartoon film Detective Conan used this “Conan” as the name of its hero.
